George Sungani is a gospel reggae artist based Liwonde, Machinga in the southern region of Malawi. He started music way back in the late 90s having played as keybordist/vocalist with different popular bands in Malawi. He is originally from Chalenga village in Traditional Authority Chilipa in Mangochi district. His passion in music goes deeper through an inspiration from an international gospel reggae icons the Christafari to reach out to the masses with the gospel in pure reggae.
He is not a stranger in the music business because he has performed with big artists and bands in the country such as Mwizalero band of Chris Charles Nsaku, Zembani Band,Tiyamike Band of Malume Bokosi, Ralph Records of Ralph Ching’amba which was comprised of artists like the late Andrew Matrauza, Thomas Chibade, Evance Meleka, Soul Chembezi etc.He has also performed with the Sound Slaves of Lambani Dube previously known as Limbani Banda. In fact he comes from a musical background family and most of his brothers and sisters are singers so is his sister Chicco Sungani who encouraged him on his music journey.
Since he started his music he has produced one album titled King of Kings which was recorded by Yuze Uganda at YM Records. The 10 truck album is comprised of songs like Mfumu yafika, Simba kwa Yesu, Mutamandike, King of Kings (tittle truck), ondisamala just to mention a few. He also featured Khonzie Masimbe of the Black Missionaries in one of his singles tittled Ngati nkhunda which became number 1 at MBC Malawi’s top 20 for 4 consecutive weeks.
George Sungani did his primary school at Chimutu primary in Lilongwe and Chilipa primary in Mangochi and then did his secondary school at Mangochi Secondary. He did an Advanced Diploma in Community Development at TEEM Development Centre College in Zomba and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Development.
He is a Field Officer working for Emmanuel International Malawi under WFP program in Zomba.
George is married to Angellah and they were blessed with 3 children: Owen, Faith and Miracle.
Sungani is a also a music director and a member of Evangelical Baptist Church of Malawi (E B.C.M) in Liwonde.
